    IELTS SPEAKING PART 3

What To Expect From The IELTS Speaking Part 2 Cue Cards Question

The IELTS speaking part 2 cue cards question is the second part of the IELTS speaking section. In this part, you will be given a list of questions that you will be required to discuss for a full two minutes. Before discussing the questions, the examiner will give you one minute to prepare your answer.

It’s important to note that you are required to speak for no more or no less than two minutes when you are answering your questions. In other words, you must speak for a full two minutes.

Later in this article, you will be given the exact steps you should take to ensure you speak for a full two minutes.

Keep in mind that there is a difference between the IELTS speaking part 2 and 3 sections.

How To Get a 7 Band In IELTS Speaking

It’s important to note that although you may be asked questions about the same topic in the IELTS speaking part 2 and 3 sections, these sections are totally different.

The IELTS speaking part 2 and 3 sections are different because in part 2 you are given 1 minute to prepare for your answer before having to speak for a full two minutes.

Meanwhile, in part 3 you will be asked one question at a time and you will have no time to prepare for an answer like in the IELTS speaking part 2 section.

You should think of the part 3 section as a discussion between you and the examiner in an informal setting. But remember that you should speak in full sentences while answering the questions for both parts.

    IELTS Speaking Part 2 Tips

Here are a few tips on how to get a band 7 in IELTS speaking :

    • Make sure you answer the questions in full sentences
    • Remember to use your 1 minute of preparation time wisely
    • During your one minute, think about how you will introduce your topic and how you will end your topic without just saying “I’m done.” You need to be able to speak in a clear and coherent manner.
    • While you are discussing your answers, try to stay on topic and do not talk about anything other than the given questions.
    • If you feel like you are not going to finish at the 2-minute mark, make sure you keep talking.  Especially because you will be given a low band if you talk for less than two minutes.

Here are 5 steps to ensuring that you speak for a full 2 minutes during your part 2 speaking section.

5 Steps To Talking For Exactly 2 Minutes

    STEP 1:

Once you are given your question and are given your 1 minute of preparing, you need to make sure you write down 3-4 points for each question you are going to discuss in your answer.

If you are not sure how you can outline your ideas during this one minute, have a look at this article titled IELTS Speaking Cue Card Questions || The technique you should use

    STEP 2:

Try to include vocabulary related to the topic of discussion in your answer and try to conclude your answer by wrapping up your discussion in such a way that the examiner understands that you have completed your 2-minute discussion.
