When you first get your question, it’s important that you ensure the IELTS writing task 2 structure of your essay is formatted in a manner that makes the most sense.

Here are 5 steps to a perfect IELTS writing task 2 structure:

    Step 1: Prepare Your Outline

Once you get your question, you should start preparing a quick outline of the points you want to include throughout each paragraph before you start writing your actual essay.

Your outline should not take more than one minute to complete

If you are unsure of how to write an outline for your essay, check out the article titled IELTS Essentials For IELTS writing task 1.

    Step 2: Write Your Introduction

Once you prepare your outline, you should write an outline that is a maximum of four sentences. Within these four sentences, you should ensure that you introduce your essay and what exactly your essay will be about. Furthermore, you should introduce your opinion or whatever side you will be discussing in your essay.

Step 3: Write Your First Body Paragraph

Your first body paragraph should include your first main idea or first main point that you are trying to point out with two reasons to back up your first point. Following this structure will help keep your essay organized and easy to follow. Furthermore, if the sentences in your essay flow well and make sense, the examiner will give you a high score.

Step 4: Write Your Second Body Paragraph

While you are writing your second body paragraph, you should ensure that you include your second main idea and support it with two reasons to back up your second main idea. Your second main idea should be totally different than your first idea.

In addition to this, you should ensure that your first and second body paragraphs are only five to seven sentences long.

    Step 5: Write Your Conclusion

When writing your conclusion, it’s important that it’s no more than 3-4 sentences. You should include your main points and wrap up your conclusion with an opinion if the question is asking for your opinion.

Why Outlining Your Essay Is Important

Outlining your essay is a very important part of your essay writing process. The main reason is that it will save you time from having to think of ideas while writing. In addition to this, it helps keep your thoughts organized and it will help you ensure that you are answering all parts of the questions that are being asked.

While this may seem easy to do, it is essential that you follow the exact outlining technique that I give you because you should only spend no more than a minute thinking of ideas for your outline.
