All About The IELTS Speaking Exam

The IELTS speaking section includes three different parts where the examiner asks you questions face to face. In the first part of the IELTS speaking section, you will be asked questions about yourself, your family size, or even about your hobbies.

If you want to learn more about the IELTS speaking part 1 section, have a look at this video where you will see IELTS speaking part 1 sample questions and answers:

You will be asked one question at a time, then the examiner will move on to the IELTS speaking part 2 section.

The IELTS SPeaking part 2 section

You may find the IELTS Speaking part 2 section to be a bit more challenging, especially because the examiner will give you a few questions related to the same topic. Once you are given your questions, the examiner will give you 1 minute to prepare your answer.

You should think of the one minute that the examiner gives you to prepare your answers as a time to brainstorm ideas on how you are going to discuss your given questions.

While preparing your answers for the IELTS speaking part 2 section, you should jot two to three words of what you are going to cover on that given question. In addition to this, you should think about how you are going to start your conversation and how you are going to end it.

Here is a video of how you should spend your 1 minute of preparation time on the IELTS speaking part 2 question:

Now take a look at what to expect from the IELTS speaking part 3 section.

About the IELTS Speaking Part 3 Section

After the IELTS speaking part 2 questions, you will be asked more questions in IELTS speaking part 3. Throughout this section, you will be asked one question, then after you respond you will be given another question.

You should think about the IELTS speaking part 3 section as an informal discussion between you and the examiner. But, take into consideration that you should answer in full sentences and not use any slang throughout your answer.

Furthermore, you are likely to have to answer questions in IELTS speaking part 3 that relate to the same topic as the questions that were asked in IELTS speaking part 2.

If you feel like you are repeating the same answer from part 2, that’s okay. Just try to reword your answer giving your response to the question.
